New Youth Supportive Housing Complex to Address Homelessness in Windsor

The creation of a new youth supportive housing complex in Windsor is a beacon of hope for at-risk young individuals facing housing insecurity and homelessness. Thanks to funding from various levels of government and a partnership between key organizations, this new facility will provide refuge and support for up to 15 individuals between the ages of 18 and 23.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Rapid Housing Initiative played a significant role in making this project a reality, with over two million dollars allocated towards the construction of this much-needed housing complex. The goal of the RHI is to address urgent housing needs through the rapid construction of affordable housing, and the Windsor-Essex CHC has successfully built a modern and attractive home for youth in need.

Scheduled to open in June of 2024, this new facility will not only provide a safe place to live but also offer dedicated life skills programming to help these young individuals transition into adulthood with the necessary tools and support. This holistic approach aims to address the root causes of homelessness and empower these youth to thrive independently.

Derrick Drouillard, Executive Director of the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society, expressed his pride and gratitude for the community’s support in making this project a reality.
