2024 Robotics and Programming Camp Inspires Young Innovators at CEHS

Are you interested in robotics and programming? Do you want to explore the exciting world of STEM education? Look no further than the College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) Robotics and Programming Camp!

This year, thirteen fifth through eighth grade students had the opportunity to design, build, program, and test their very own robots using LEGO EV3 Mindstorm kits. From creating robots that can flip over opponents in a combat arena to designing their own unique robots, these young campers were able to unleash their creativity and problem-solving skills.

Camp director, Chris Campbell, emphasized the importance of having fun while learning. He stated, “We want the students to leave with a love for problem solving and have some fun while they do it.” The camp not only challenges students to think critically and work collaboratively, but also introduces them to the exciting world of robotics and computer science.

Returning campers are given additional challenges and team-building activities to keep them engaged, while also serving as mentors to younger participants. This creates a supportive environment where teamwork and innovation are encouraged.

One of the highlights of the camp is the opportunity for campers to learn about incorporating sensors into their builds and programming their robots to work independently. They are also introduced to local and national robotics competitions, inspiring them to join their school robotics teams or even start one of their own.

Co-director Taylar Rankin, a recent Louisiana Tech graduate, expressed her enthusiasm for the camp’s impact on young students. She stated, “It’s great to see the different ideas students come up with to complete a challenge or meet the building requirements. The camp allows students to be creative while also introducing them to the wide field of computer science.”

If you are interested in getting involved in next year’s Robotics and Programming Camp, be sure to contact Chris Campbell at 318.257.2131 or ctc@latech.edu. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to explore the world of robotics and programming!
