According to a recent survey conducted by Capgemini, an overwhelming majority (85%) of the global software workforce expects to utilize GenAI tools within the next two years. The survey, which included nearly 2,200 senior executives and software professionals, highlighted the widespread adoption of AI among developers. Despite the positive outcomes associated with AI adoption, concerns have been raised regarding the potential displacement of human workers. However, the survey revealed that organizations plan to use the freed time to develop new software features and upskill their workforce, emphasizing AI’s role as a tool to support human workers rather than replace them. In fact, reducing headcount was identified as the least favored approach, with only 4% of organizations considering this option.
While the benefits of GenAI tools are clear, there are also challenges that need to be addressed. Security and legal risks associated with using generative AI in the workplace have been highlighted, with a significant number of software engineers admitting to using unauthorized versions of AI tools. This could potentially lead to issues such as data leaks and intellectual property concerns, underscoring the importance of implementing proper safeguards and protocols.
