Alma College Celebrates First Graduates of Master of Arts in Special Education Program
Are you a Michigan teacher looking to further your education and make a difference in the lives of students with learning disabilities? If so, Alma College’s Master of Arts in Special Education with Learning Disabilities Endorsement program may be just what you’re looking for.
Recently, a group of 19 Michigan teachers celebrated a unique milestone as the first graduates of Alma’s special education program. The program, which is fully online and can be completed in just 12 months, provides Michigan-certified teachers with the opportunity to earn special education licensure with an endorsement in learning disabilities from the Michigan Department of Education.
One of the highlights of the program is the partnership between Alma College and Talent Together, a consortium of 50 intermediate school districts and regional educational service areas in Michigan. Thanks to a state grant, teachers in the program were able to complete their degrees free of charge, eliminating the financial barrier that often prevents educators from pursuing advanced degrees in special education.
Bethanne Anders, a teacher in the Bentley Community Schools district and one of the program’s graduates, praised the program for its invaluable lessons and support from instructors. With 22 years of experience in education, Anders has seen firsthand the need for special education teachers in Michigan and believes that Alma College’s program has equipped her with the knowledge and skills needed to help students succeed.
If you’re interested in joining the next cohort of Master’s students in the fall 2024 term, now is the time to explore Alma College’s program. Whether you’re an elementary, secondary, or special education teacher, this program will provide you with the tools to lead classrooms of students with unique learning needs, plan and provide instruction, and supervise support staff.
